It's funny how we can easily visualize our deepest fears—see them, feel them, almost touch them. But when it comes to picturing our greatest successes, it's like we're staring at a blank canvas. There's this clarity in the chaos of our fears, yet success often feels abstract and distant.
If you want to win, it's time to paint to the canvas.
I always say your motivator needs to be stronger than your greatest fear. It should be a driving force and the fire under your ass when "you don't feel like it," "you're too tired," or when that voice in your head is trying to keep you in your comfort zone shows up. Your motivator should know what winning looks like to the point where you can feel and taste that winning moment.
Every athlete, actor, and musician engages in this mental work. They mentally place themselves in the playoffs, winning an award, on stage in their dream arena, and more. The mental image is so clear that if doubt surfaces, that image doesn't allow it to linger for long. They are on a mission to bring that vision to life, deeply ingraining it in their mental state, leaving zero possibility of it not materializing. A clear mental vision fuels daily confidence.
So, what does winning look like for you? What is your significant moment? How often do you mentally immerse yourself in that big moment?
I understand that this can be difficult for some, as it might not be a muscle we've flexed before. To help you start painting that picture, here are some questions for you to reflect on and answer. Start answering these questions from the bottom up, and if you can't answer a question, don't skip it - sit with it until you can.
Shift the focus from the scary details of our fears to the vivid possibilities of winning! I should be able to walk up to you and ask you what winning looks like, and you should paint a fucking Picasso for me.
I am so clear on what my big win is that there is ZERO doubt in my mind that my win won’t come to life. I can feel that moment so deeply now that it gives me chills and that moment is what gets me up each day and keeps me showing up no matter what.
Your win doesn’t allow bullshit excuses to get in the way. As a new mom, entrepreneur, etc I can easily make a lot of them but I don’t. Excuses are a choice. Your life is a choice. Now that might be triggering to hear but everything even the shittiest cards we’re dealt come with a choice.
Pick up the brush and paint the damn canvas. Fear grows if you fuel it but you know what, so does success.
What’s you win? I want to hear it!
