Embracing the Slip
The path to peak performance is never linear. Expect slips, learn resilience, and get back up.
As we navigate almost a month into the new year, it's important to recognize that the journey towards your goals is often marked by unexpected slips and moments when our performance may not be its best.
You’ll slip because we all slip. I don't use the word “mistake”; I prefer the term “slip.” When I slip, it's usually because my feet aren't fully grounded – BECAUSE I'm not doing the things I need to in order to show up at my best.
The work I do with my clients provides them with a snapshot of their performance at its peak and a glimpse of the times when they're not quite there. We all have BOTH sides.
Performance DEMANDS awareness, not only of what our best entails, but also an understanding of the tools that bolster us when we're not operating at that level.
The distinction between the TOP performers and the average lies not only in skillset, character, focus, and discipline, but in the recognition that they too experience off days. However, what sets them apart is their comprehension of what it takes to transcend those moments and rise back to their optimal state.
It's not about avoiding setbacks, but about embracing them as part of the journey. When we slip, it's not an indicator of our abilities but rather that we have more to learn.
Each slip is a chance to gain insights into ourselves, our methods, and the environment we're navigating.
The best performers acknowledge their slips and use them to refine their approach.
So, as we move forward, remember that slipping doesn't define us; it refines us. It's an opportunity to assess, adapt, and ultimately elevate our performance.
It's not just about striving for excellence on good days, but about understanding what's necessary to shine even on the toughest days.
In the end, the pursuit of greatness isn't a linear path. It's a series of slips, slides, and strides, each contributing to our growth. So, keep slipping, keep learning, and keep pushing, because it's through these experiences that we truly find our way to becoming not only our best selves but our strongest.
Resilience is built based on how we get through our toughest days.
Keep your head and heart in it!
